Host Sign-Up Instructions

How to host Back Porch meetings smoothly, including Zoom setup and participant management.

Before the Meeting
  • Confirm meeting date/time and your hosting role with the chairperson.
  • Join 10 minutes early; test your audio/video; ensure a stable internet connection.
  • Have Zoom controls visible: Participants, Chat, Security, and Mute/Unmute buttons.
  • Ensure meeting format is handy; coordinate with the chair on readings and flow.
During the Meeting
  • Admit participants from the waiting room and welcome newcomers.
  • Help the chair keep the meeting on time; gently cue transitions as needed.
  • Use Security/Participants to manage disruptions politely; avoid commenting on shares.
  • Assist with muting/unmuting and spotlighting when requested by the chair.
  • Share readings via screen-share only if asked; otherwise let the chair read aloud for accessibility.
After the Meeting
  • Remain ~15 minutes to support anyone who needs it.
  • Thank participants and remind them of upcoming meetings.
  • Coordinate with the chairperson about any follow-ups.
Pro tip: Do not comment on people’s shares beyond a simple “thank you.” Keep the focus on recovery and the AA solution.
